September 5, 2015 Gardening Tips

Perennials are without a doubt a great choice for those who have a garden. Unlike other flowers, these ones are very easy to grow and require little maintenance. Furthermore, they definitely beautify the whole landscape. If you are interested in planting this sort or flowers, then you must take into account the following helpful tips for growing perennials.

Start with preparing the site

The first thing you need to do is to prepare the site. Make sure that the bed has the shape and size you need, and remove all the vegetation found in there. Once you have done this, you need to test the pH of your soil. If it is too acid, then you will need to add lime. In order to know exactly how the pH should be, ask a specialist. However, the idea is that you need a healthy soil in order to grow healthy flowers and plants.

Add organic fertilizer

A fertilizer is necessary for a good growth. Therefore, make sure that you use one. The organic fertilizer is highly recommended and you should definitely get it and use it in order to have beautiful perennials. Using organic fertilizer is one of the helpful tips for growing fertilizer that should seriously be taken into account by anyone who is planning to do this.

Start planting

Keep in mind to dig the holes two times bigger than the container the perennials come in. It is a lot better to dig large holes, due to the fact that the roots will grow out a lot easier into loosened, enriched soil, which is exactly what you need, in order to have beautiful flowers. Carefully remove each flower from the container and lightly loosen its roots and place it into the whole. Once you have done this, you need to add enriched soil. At the end of this process, make sure that you water well by using a soft trickle of water. Choose one that lasts ling enough in order to saturate the root ball very deep into the soil. These flowers prefer one inch of water once a week. It is very important that you regularly monitor the moisture of your soil so that you know exactly if you should add more or less water. In order to keep weeds down and conserve precious moisture as well, you should mulch the flowers with a 3-inch layer of organic mulch. If these important steps are followed you will definitely have a nice garden.
