How to Build an Outdoor Home Theater in Your Backyard
If you have a large backyard and you are thinking about turning it into a unique place, you can easily turn it into an outdoor home theater. How can you do that? By following our instructions in the following lines.
- To make the outdoor theater functional all year round, you will have to protect it from both hot and cold weather. You wouldn’t want a summer rain to ruin your movie afternoon plans, so you should consider covering the home theater in order to protect yourself and the equipment. Build a wooden structure and install sliding walls that can be widely opened during warm days of summer and closed shut in winter. This way, you can enjoy your outdoor home theater every season without worrying about the weather.
- Still, you will have to solve the heating and cooling issue otherwise, it will be impossible for you to enjoy a movie without freezing in winter or suffocating in summer. Depending on how large you design the theater to be, you can use one or more infrared heaters during winter so you will create a warm and cozy ambiance. The infrared heater will heat the air without using too much energy so you won’t influence your household’s electricity bill. For summer, resort to the help of tower fans that are also energy-efficient and manage to circulate cool air throughout the room. Once you’ve solved the ambiance problem, it’s time to furnish and equip the outdoor home theater.
- First of all, you will need chairs, large and comfortable chairs so you will manage to relax during the movie you will watch. It’s best to place the chairs in lines, just like in a cinema, so many people will be able to watch the movie in perfect conditions. You will also need a small table to hold the video and sound equipment. Other than that, you will not need more pieces of furniture.
- When it comes to equipping an outdoor home theater, you must consider the picture and the sound matters. What you will need is a large screen to project the image on it so the movie will be visible for everyone. If you will build the screen yourself, make sure it’s solid and stable to the ground because it can hurt someone if it tilts over. Use an iron frame and secure it to the ground firmly using large screws. For the screen itself, use billboard vinyl tarp that is resistant and offers a good picture quality. Next, consider purchasing a movie projector that you must install at the back of the theater so the picture will be transmitted over the screen. For the sound issue, install a few speakers in every corner of the theater to create a surround sound that will cover the entire area. Now, you are ready to sit back and enjoy a good movie in your backyard.
