Living in an unsafe area? Try these tips for your home

September 22, 2017 Gardening Tips

If you think you live in an unsafe area, it is paramount to take some measurement to prevent any unwanted events from happening. Firstly, look for these signs so you’ll know you are not completely safe and comfortable in the area you live in: lots of police cars in the area, many night clubs and bars, trash everywhere on the streets and sidewalks, abandoned houses etc. In case you encounter at least two of these you can start worrying about your vicinities. Here are some tips for protecting your house properly:

Improving the appeal of your garden - useful tips

Secure your garden

First thing you will want to do is securing your garden. Because the easiest way for thieves to access your house if from the backyard, you will have to make your garden secure. Burglary is extremely common in dangerous neighbourhoods so besides building a fence around your garden, you should check all the windows and doors that are facing towards it. In addition, make sure you are adding gravel to your yard paths and driveway. Grass is making people who are stepping on it stealthier, meaning that it will be much harder for you to notice unusual sounds when the situation requires it. You can read more about securing your garden searching for mini-guides online.

Remain alert at all times

Remaining focused on keeping your house safe at all times is a must. Even if you are leaving your house for a long period of time, you should not forget to leave the lights on in a room or two to make people believe there is still someone inside so thieves won’t attend to break inside. You should simply anticipate the possibilities and expect anything, because you never know what can happen. If you know someone who you can completely trust, ask them to make a short visit to your house and see if everything is alright from time to time. This applies in the case that you are leaving for a holiday or something similar. When you are simply going out for the night, just take all the measurements you can and hope for the best.

Lighting and security systems

Another factor that can affect the safety of your house is how well lit is the driveway and the garden. If the street you are living on is not properly lit, make sure you install a lot of lighting methods around your house. The darker it would be, the better looking your house will be for burglars. Updating your security system is something you need to take into account too. Nowadays you can find high-tech security systems that can dial emergency numbers as soon as they are triggered. This means that you will reduce the risk of having something stolen exponentially. It takes much longer to turn the alarm off by yourself and call for police by yourself. Plus, you will be under pressure and you are not going to react as rationally as you would normally would.
